I'm going to start reading some of Lovecraft's works beginning with "The Call of Cthulhu." Mainly I'm reading because of the Metallica song "The Thing That Should Not Be." I was just wondering what stories/books of his are suggested by everyone here who's read his works. Thanks.
It's very short, but subtle and, as somebody else says above, creepy as hell.
Colour Out of Space is really good, too. Another favorite is Shadow Over Innsmouth.

"Arkham" is a fictional city created by Lovecraft. It's where Arkham Asylum gets it's name.

Ever hear of the game "Arkham Horror"? Tom is right - it features at least a bit in all the stories

The Library of America collection is probably the best "popular" one

Are any of these stories considered series that I need to read in any particular order? *NM*

I read an anthology, and overall, my impression was that each story is a standalone
