My comments in the other thread are a bit premature, then - my mind went "Cameron will be PM, so his coalition must be ready". But it makes sense that the two don't necessarily go together.


The Tories are the largest party even if not the largest combined, so they can form a government by themselves.

Theoretically, if no deal with the LibDems happens, the Tories can introduce their new legislation in the Queen's Speech and the new budget, be defeated by a Labour-LibDem voting bloc and have to call a fresh general election.

It does appear, however, that the Tories are bending over backwards to give the LibDems what they can afford to, making a deal much more likely.
