I think part of the problem is that the war was so politicized that in lot of cases expensive decisions were made for purely political reasons. Nobody wanted to been seen voting against body amour so any bill that had body armor was dangerous to vote against no matter how pork laden it was. Nobody was even willing to ask if every person there down to the airforce pukes who never left the FOB needed body amour.

Look how much grief Rumsfeld got for saying you fight with the army you have not the army you wished you had. Seemed like common sense to me but from the reaction of some people you would think he said rape is like rain and if it is going to happen you might as well sit back and enjoy it. (I candidate for governor in Texas actually did say that by the way)

I had a son over there and there is no limit to how much money I would have been willing to keep him safe. That is why I shouldn’t have been making the decision on how much to spend.
