If you recall, the whole "financial crisis" was a crisis because banks were in danger of folding. BP can take the hit; the banks couldn't.

Their stock is down 50% already and continues to fall. Even worse for Transocean and Anadarko, which are much smaller than BP but still big players in the oil industry. Transocean is the world's largest offshore rig operator and Anadarko is also one of the largest oil producers in the world.

Just today an industry analyst said BP might seek bankruptcy protection within a month. At the rate expenses are piling up for BP, I can see where he's coming from.
