I fully expect the Oil Co.'s to wriggle out of most of their liabilities. Exxon was certainly able to. I think the judgment against them ended up only being about $500M, reduced from $5B (10%).


Exxon actually made most of their money back in terms of punitive damages. They went through the appeals process for at least 15 years, they didn't pay it until 2008. Through interest alone they made their money back, while Alaskans got 10 cents on the dollar.

But I'm at least going to wait and see :P


I fully expect the American people to get screwed again.
