What Mr Osbourne is doing these days is creating an atmosphere of confidence in the British economy for outside investment - and for more big company investment. If it looks like the government is doing something to stem the deficit, then investors are going to feel that investing in the UK isn't pouring money into a country which will fail in the next couple of years. He's trying to create an environment in which business can thrive.

The time for big government spending is past. It's time to get the deficit under control. And, if you look at things objectively, Labour was unncesarily profligate in its spending in the last few months of power - which is a lovely ploy by a party which knows it's going to lose the election and wants to make it harder for the next guys.

The Budget has already helped our currency strengthen again, and, as the information is digested, the stockmarkets are going slowly back up. It's a good start. Hopefully it will continue.
