The argument seems to go that Spain etc. don't need a mid-season break because their league runs at a slower pace, with players being much better at picking the right moment to go on a proper run. Much of the movement is with the ball etc. Teams that run around more, i.e. Germany and England would benefit from a mid-season break, as the Bundesliga has.

I'd discount it as utter rubbish, but Torres' sluggish performance tonight could maybe give it credence. Maybe. Ish.

Of course it could just be that Premier League style football is just completely incompatible with International football, which I'm more likely to agree with.
