Offsides only apply if you are directly affecting the game from your position, and Villa wasn't offside when Pedro got the ball because he wasn't even close to it at that time. So therefore there is no call. When Pedro shoots, new situation and Villa is on-side again. If we compare this to the situation when Valdez scored, the player who was offside actually tried to reach the ball (directly on the pass), which makes the offside call correct.
I guess hitting the post does reset matters, then.
Not really, but Pedro taking the shot. Had Villa been offside when the shot was fired, he'd been called even if the ball bounced off the post first.
