Well. Facebook & sites like that are about functionality. Blogs & forums are about discussion. In my opinion, any flashy stuff is just icing on the cake. I'd be bothered if the site didn't do the basics in a stable way (i.e. few crashes), but if I can't put a picture into my post I don't really care. In almost every case, that ability would add very little to whatever point I was trying to make.
All that said, it's very possible that Benjamin is planning some other functionality that will appear later. You forget he's had less than a year on this site. Mike had more than 10 years to pull things together.
Be patient.
Suggest functionality if there is something missing. Ben (and the rest of the Edinburgh group, which more often than not are the sounding board, I think (although I don't know what goes on at the team board *cough*)) is not a magic creativity fountain.
