It was the part about him running for any sort of office that made me dismiss him as a possibility, regardless of how poor his (atrocious) grammar might have been :P

I do think, in all seriousness, if it ends up being Bill Haslam vs. Mike McWherter, then things will be okay in my state either way. I just wouldn't want a Ron Ramsey...or a Basil Marceaux, for that matter, being my state's governor. I just feel the two I named, regardless of their party affiliations, might continue the policies of Bredesen, who currently enjoys a ridiculously low 7% disapproval rating according to a poll that was published Sunday in The Tennessean. Tennessee doesn't have a history of having extremely partisan governors and I want that tradition to continue.

But if Basil's the man...oh man, would I laugh and laugh...and then cry at the failings of the democratic system :P


Haslam's got the cash compared to the other candidates, several million bucks in the war chest, the somewhat bizarre method of picking Lt Gov in your state seems to have stamped a bad image on Ramsey I gather, and Wamp apparently wants to secede form the Union or something, so odds favor Haslam versus McWherter and Haslam for the win. McWherter, who would easily pass for a republican in many states, doesn't appear to have the cash or charisma to win unless Haslam produces a tax scandal or something, he's lagging brutally far down in the polls against all three, so ironically his best bet would probably be a mass defection of Dems in the primary to vote the nutjob. Though odds are that would backfire and the loon would get elected :P



I imagine that, coupled with the ads he's now starting to run, probably could shrink the numbers somewhat, but I do agree that Haslam is likely the winner. What I think is happening is very similar to 1994, when Bredesen ran and lost to Sundquist (who then proved to be Tennessee's worst governor in a century - we've been blessed with likable people from both parties for the most part) during the last landslide-type campaign cycle. Eight years later, he finally becomes governor and won easily both times, including a record near-70% total in 2006. I suspect by 2018 McWherter would be visible enough that he'd win more than just legacy votes from fans of his father.

All I know is that I want no Ramsey in charge of anything anymore. The guy's politics is poisoning the General Assembly and I don't want a Democratic counterpart to arise and do the same down the road in revenge xx(
