the only real advantage the iPad has to me is that it is lighter and more compact...but paper and pen are even more light and compact (not to mention GOBS cheaper) and the only time I really see myself using an iPad over my tablet laptop is if I was using it to take notes in the clinic. I'd rather use the much-cheaper pen and paper option.

as far as eReader vs iPad, why would I pay so much extra for functions I'm not going to use?
