The far right militants may have been religious but except for the occasional guy how talked to his couch they were not motivated by religion. They used odd bits and pieces from the bible to justify their actions but I never heard them say they were acting in the name of god. Abortion clinic bombings might have been a better example.
He wanted to know examples of other faiths being radicalized or using religion as a basis of hate and I think that was a valid example. Many of those groups (not all by any means as some were just anti-federalism) used the Bible, their church groups (often home churches and non mainline sects) as grounds to preach and promote their oddball interpretations and paranoia. I just wanted him and others to see how politics and religious ideology can become intertwined and promoted as violence in any religion.
There are other examples within Christianity (such as the whole Ireland issue) or Buddhism (the war in Sri Lanka) or even Hinduism (in which both nutty Hindus AND Muslims have killed each other). Although, I'm not really sure anything would convince him so I'm not even sure why I tried.

But wine was the great assassin of both tradition and propriety...
