I admit, I don't know many (any) kiwis personally (in person that is)... Phelix Send a noteboard - 08/09/2010 09:52:45 PM
The word has so many other connotations in Australia and New Zealand that it's not surprising that the homosexual meaning didn't enter her head at the time.

but the people I do know from Europe, Africa and Australia all share the common definition that faggot, when used as an insult, is meant to be derogatory to queer folk.

The only time I can think of "faggot" being used in a non-offensive way is when you call a straight woman who hangs out with gay men a fag-hag, and even that is mildly offensive.

How else is it used? I don't think my experience is universal, but I simply haven't encountered a situation where faggot-as-insult did not refer to queer men.
I was Phelix on wotmania, I will always be Phelix in the "real" world, and now I am Phelix on RAFO.

You will make all kinds of mistakes; but as long as you are generous and true and also fierce you cannot hurt the world or even seriously distress her.- Churchill
