It is all double dutch to me snoopcester Send a noteboard - 24/09/2010 02:41:41 PM
1) Which languages did you learn in school, and for how long?

French, 5 years I think.
German for 3 years.
That is all.

2) Which languages would you say you speak with some degree of fluency?

English.

3) Do you think languages get too much attention in the school system you went to, too little, or just about enough?

Too much. Everyone knows all an Englishman needs to comunicate with any non-english speaker is a loud voice and patience. Just speak loudly and slowly and wait for the foreign blighter to admit he understands you:|
Erm, other than that it was probably too much for me since I had no ability at the lessons but probably not unuseful for most to learn a little more.

4) What do you think of the remarkable dominance of English that appears in the data?

We're number one! Screw you, other languages!
Makes sense over time that one would come to dominate (more mobile populations and greater ease of communication between people in different countries as well as globalisation in the business world etc), just so long as it doesn't displace native languages I don't mind.

Robert Graves "There is no money in poetry, but then there is no poetry in money, either."

Henning Mankell "We must defend the open society, because if we start locking our doors, if we let fear decide, the person who committed the act of terror will win"
