I mean, you know, if you study Japanese Studies here, to stick with that example, you'll get close to half of your credits in the first year in Japanese language acquisition, decreasing in higher years but still remaining close to a quarter of the credits in the last year I'd say. And the large majority of your other subjects will have to do with Japan somehow - history, culture, religion, Classical Chinese, etc. Plus maybe philosophy and one or two more general but still humanities-related subjects. That's it. None of this "everybody should have a science and a language and a human science and whatever else" silliness. If you do Japanese Studies, Japanese studies is what you get. And same thing if you study mathematics or physics: don't expect to get language classes.
