There are also societal pressures that increase if polygamy is allowed with too many partners if the male population hasn't been culled down due to warfare. A significant number of men without sexual partners and the opportunity to find them generally leads to a very high level of violence in society.

Never thought about that aspect, but it makes perfect sense (I'm not sure how I missed it. :<img class=' />) It's ironic that polygamy seems to have become less rather than more common as society has advanced and populations increased but then, what was called "assimilation" as recently as a century ago is now classed as "genocide" under international law. Which I guess means there's a good chance of periodic war making a return.
