the government limits the type and style of each toy commercial on saturday morning. each cereal commercial is regulated. every single commercial your kid sees on saturday morning has had to pass government regulations because of the psychological and other effects advertising has on children. the government telling fast food places that their meals need to meet certain nutritious guidelines or else they can't sell toys is really not that different than what is already going on with the television side of things.
you still have the right as a parent to feed your kids whatever you want to feed them. however, your kids do not have the right to be materially rewarded for eating whatever crap you put in front of them, especially if that food has an adult dose of non-nutritious components. that's basically all this law does: it stops fast food joints from marketing directly to kids by promising them rewards for eating their shitty food.
