Some of you may be familiar with the Kim Stanley Robinson novel, Red Mars, where a small collection scientists are sent to Mars to explore, study, and prepare the planet for habitation. Well, the idea seems to be gaining a foothold in the actual scientific community now.

I read his book for a class I had at university called Religion and Science. I hope to read more of his stuff in the future.

As far as the no return mission - I am all for it. I would volunteer. Hell, I would volunteer to be shot out into space. I wonder what I would see before going nuts and dying?
