Ask him to keep track of materials cost. At the end, pay him that, then figure out how much time he has worked and figure out a good rate that you would be comfortable with paying him. That way for your peace of mind, you know that you've paid him more than his strict costs of the materials. You'll know that he's actually being paid to do work.


I'll pay for materials separately - buy them myself or together with him.

And I keep thinking of more things I want him to do. I guess I'll just keep track of everything being down and tally up at the end - and just pay him extra if I feel like it.
