I think his record is supposed to be pretty good on equality issues.
I don't think he's as big a Marxist as some do, and wouldn't see that as the breaking of the Seventh Seal many of them consider it if I did, but he definitely imbibed a fair amount of that ideology. That means embracing the equality of the proletariat, too, of course, which makes the vote quite understandable (and "Red" Chinas typically revealing).
