Do you have any idea how insurance works? Brian Send a noteboard - 16/09/2009 06:12:10 AM
By your logic the insurance companies could call anything cyclical. Ever smoke but don't smoke now? sorry, smoking can be a cycle and we won't risk you starting again. Ever drink but don't drink now? sorry, but drinking is often a cycle...
Ever (insert any behavior here)? Sorry, but (insert behavior here again) can be cyclical and we won't take a chance on you doing it again.

Insurance looks at past behavior to predict future losses. Each and every example you just gave is something that someone writing a health insurance policy would likely look at when determining acceptability and rates. If your husband beat the crap out of you and put you in the hospital 3 times in the last 4 years, why would anyone think that the future is going to bring anything different? If you've had 4 different men who have put you into the hospital from domestic abuse why would someone think that you're not likely to end up with someone who will do the same in the future. Women who have been in abusive relationships in the past tend to end up in abusive relationships again, and I see no reason why that shouldn't be taken into account when determining someones acceptability and rates for health insurance.
