It just seemed for a while there like the grinches had the elves severely outnumbered around here, and after a while I had the strong urge to scream, "Look, I'm sorry you hate the world, but can't you just let me enjoy my Christmas in peace?" I didn't have any actual "culprit" in mind, it was more one of those critical mass things. The paper crashing through your kitchen window wakes you up late after your alarm doesn't go off, your coffee goes in your lap after some ass cuts you off in traffic and then some idiot's in your parking place, so when someone borrows your stapler without asking you naturally beat the hell out of him with it.
