Don't bother with physics, it's a waste of time for what you want to do. Macharius Send a noteboard - 12/01/2011 02:09:30 PM
And I say that because I got my physics degree, and am having to go back to school and learn many things that were never part of my curriculum. I'm currently doing corporate finance, and am planning on transitioning to financial markets.

Undergraduate physics is geared 110% towards graduate study: if you don't plan on graduate study in physics, don't plan on taking enough courses to satisfy a major. Take a minor if you want, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. With a BS in physics, all you're able to do is work problems out of a book and rinky-dink labs. Physicists write programs, yes: but nothing that's really applicable to a business setting beyond the experience of programming that you'll get doing other things.

If you want to do software developement/engineering, do CS and/or CIS/MIS - ideally CE if your school offers it. For a minor, go with math or statistics.

I really don't understand why you're asking here: go to potential employers and ask them what they find most impressive in job candidates... don't rely on what other people tell you employers want: get it from the horse's mouth yourself!

Honestly, CS (major) and Math is a better option. - 12/01/2011 07:07:59 PM 634 Views
