I would put my boss, Dan, at a 4 out of 5. Some days he would be around a 2.5, while on other days he would be a 5. The reasons for this lack of precision are that he can get moody when he's stressed. This lack of predictability makes work-life kinda challenging.

So the reasons that Dan is a good boss. He is definately not a micro-manager...unless the situation calls for it (which is very helpful by the way). He is almost always hands-off when it comes to me and the team. He doesn't hover behind us, checking our work, or bugging us. He doesn't care about how long we're at lunch....when we come in, or when we leave. If our work is done, he's happy. I've been known to come in an hour late....go to a two hour lunch....and then leave on time. I would do this for *months* and he wouldn't care, because my stuff was done.

To use a football (American) term, Dan is my Offensive Line. He blocks for me, and moves people out of my way.
