Since I'm up with my two month-old and I've been thinking about this post for awhile I'll post it now I guess.
Could someone kindly explain political terms for me? I don't pay attention to politics and as a result I don't know what Lefts and Rights are, what they believe, what their stances are, etc. Also, I'm assuming that Lefts and Rights are other names for Liberals and Conservatives, but I don't know what that means either. I know when you clean your bathroom the directions for the cleaning product will usually say, "Apply liberally to cleaning surface" or whatever, but that's the extent of my knowledge about that.
I'm sure there's a website out there that would explain this in detail, but I don't really care for details. Just an overview possibly followed by some questions to fine tune my understanding.
I'm not wanting this to become a political debate. In that case should I have avoided this topic?

Yeah. In the US, what jh refers to as "economically liberal" is called "classically liberal."
