Well, if you aren't trying to equate them even the dubious "two wrongs make a right" defense fails. Joel Send a noteboard - 14/03/2011 10:01:57 PM
Simmer down Joel.

I, in no way, was equating either action or stereotypical belief. There was no mention, or even the subtle mention, of the two stereotypes being on equal footing.

I was pointing out that making a broad generalization is foolish.

~Jeordam

Generalizations are never perfect, because always broad, but a valid generalization remains possible so long as we understand it won't be a perfect fit for all people in every situation, just most people in most situations. So the city councilwomans generalization of all the fundraiser attendees as "terrorists" and "pure unadulterated evil" fails badly because only a small minority of Muslims have ever committed terrorism, and the US Representatives generalization that the fundraiser and its attendees are "destroying America" fails for the same reason. However, the fact that a majority elected them both to office not only supports but largely PROVES that a majority of the Tea Party supports racist leaders; the only question is how much of that majority is willing and able to admit it, and what they'll do if/when they finally accept that fact.

You guys elected these people, with us telling you they have no business running a hot dog stand and many of them belong in a psych ward; we're not responsible for what your hand hath wrought.
