People often don't realize how terrible the German tanks were early in the war. Soviet and French tanks were definitely better, but they just misused tanks because of an outdated military doctrine that went back to World War I, where tanks were used in small numbers to exploit a breakthrough.
The Germans, on the other hand, liked the Blitzkrieg style of massed tank formations supported by dive bombers and other close air support to effect a breakthrough and collapse an enemy line.
