It's odd, though, because they're related to the Polynesian languages and I think Hawaiian sounds neat.
Malay and Indonesian (or Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia, if you prefer) are sister languages, but Tagalog is different enough from them that your statement makes about as much sense as saying "it's funny how ugly Portuguese sounds considering it's related to French and Italian" - or still less, as I suspect Tagalog is more distant from the other two than Portuguese is from French and Italian.
