Is it?
It probably isn't closer to Dutch than it is to Swedish and Danish.
Somehow I guessed

It could be that we have had a tradition of resisting latin-derived words.
We don't, so much... well, compared to English, but that isn't saying much.
Well, I meant that that may be why it was closer than Swedish and Danish. They, certainly Swedish, have a tendency to take on those words with great gusto. Norwegian has done it as well, somewhat, but it may have made us keep more of the Germanic ones we would have in common with Dutch.

"Muckefuck" sounds to me like "Schmutzenficken" sounds to you.

Moockefoock, though with short "oo"s. I'm guessing it's more the spelling that's funny. *NM*

Sort of like "book" for both "u"s and with a short "uh" sound for the "e".

I think that works because the languages are similar but distinct

I think some of my funniest foreign words would have to be Norwegian, as well.

I always grimace a little when I hear "pupsik". Always sounds like "poopsicle" to me.
