Not necessarily, but not reading would set off some alarm bells.

1 & 2) Books are a powerful method of exposing your mind to new ideas and perspectives, and the sort of person who reads tends to have a personality I find attractive. That said, there are definitely other vehicles of culture and philosophy; I can see myself dating a girl interested in theater or some other form of the arts. Most of my girlfriends haven't been as big readers as I am, but they all did various other things of culture--art, theatre, that sort of thing.
3) Not really. I have pretty wide tastes in music, so I don't think that would be a problem.
4) Actually, I broke up with my girlfriend yesterday.
But we hadn't seen each other in months (ldr), so I'm honestly already over it and looking forward to flirting again.
5) A nymphomaniac convention sponsored by your local library?

"We feel safe when we read what we recognise, what does not challenge our way of thinking.... a steady acceptance of pre-arranged patterns leads to the inability to question what we are told."

Being picky about books is very different from insisting that there be some books.

I thought you handled it rather well. Looking for someone compatible does not make you a snob.
