Today I got a message from someone on an online dating site that contained the following:
"The only book that I read is the Bible. Other than that, I'm not a book reader.
I mainly like contemporary Christian music: Newsboys and TobyMac are a couple of my favorites."
There was more to it but... that was the important bit.
I wrote him back with what I hope was a very polite message:
"Hello.
Thank you so much for messaging me. You are quite a handsome guy! You seem very accomplished, kind, and thoughtful- all really important things!
Having said that, I am not sure we would get along very well.
I am an avid reader and I think reading books and talking about them is a pretty important thing in my life.
I have a rather eclectic taste in music and rarely, if ever, listen to contemporary Christian music.
Thank you for messaging me, and I wish you all the best in your search!

Yes. Unless by dated you mean long term commitment, in which case, no.
2. Is reading important enough to you that you wouldn't date someone because they didn't read?
I don't think so. I try to be openminded. It doesn't always work out but I do try.
What I hate most are the snobs who *look down* on people who read for pleasure. This guy said dismissively: "I don't read fiction". He meant it in a snobby way, as in he reads philosophy and whatnot. I can't help but think less of him ever since he made that comment.
3. Do you think music is fundamental enough to your life that it would factor into who you dated?
HAHAHA no! Music is not at all fundamental in my life. It's barely in the periphery. I enjoy it when it's there, but I generally don't go out of my way to get it (except for dancing).
4. Have you been on any dates lately?
I'm going to go with yes.
5. Where would you suggest a book lover find... a lover?
I don't know. I guess everyone's going to say online. I haven't had any success with online dating, overall I think it was a waste of time.
