My desire to be an independent thinker wins out over my contrarian nature, but irritating people on both sides of the aisle is a definite plus.

I like you, but often feel the former camouflages the latter. Contrariness requires something to controvert, unless you subscribe to Dans view. Either way, Emerson had his moments, but remember that a patronizing Unitarian deacon is no more appealing than a patronizing Baptist one. ;)
