And that no one is really as serious a you think they are... Maybe you'd improve a little... But you are quite old and not particularly keen on learning such things.

I just only recently learned it had a name, but particularly on serious subject (e.g. terrorism) I tend to take a serious tone, yes. On less serious subjects I can be flippant as well, and often get weird looks for it, so there may be a little more to it than just me taking things too seriously online, though there's certainly something to that.
