It could just be my region (New York area), but a large percent of guys are circumsized, almost by rote. I was raised Catholic, and it certainly was never treated as any kind of a symbol. I think the hospital just kinda... did it. I'd say about three quarters of my male friends (all from eastern and northeast US) are the same way, and that last quarter is just uncircumcised. It was just... done, no spiritual significance behind it.
I amuse myself.
