This is something I need to look into. Kaldric Send a noteboard - 24/06/2011 02:01:01 PM
And the receptionist is wearing glasses. Somehow I don't think this is good pr.

I am not sure how I feel about laser treatment, and have decided not to explore my feelings on the subject either.

So instead, I'm posting a survey!

1. Do you wear glasses or contacts?

Glasses.

Should you?

Definitely

2. How bad/good is your eye sight?

Quite bad. My good eye can't read the words I am currently typing without my glasses (and I am near-sighted), and my bad eye is uncorrectable (a childhood viral infection severely scarred the retina of my right eye).

3. Would you ever consider getting your eyes lasered?

I would need to discuss this with an ophthalmologist. It is possible that my good eye is so bad because it has had to overcompensate for my bad eye. If this is the case, would corrective surgery actually fix the problem, or just start the cycle over?

A bonus is that it would only cost about half as much since I'd only get the one eye done. (-:,`

4. Have you had laser surgery? Are you happy with it?

My dad had radial keratotomy back when that was new, and he loved it. Of course, he died a few years later, so I don't know about his long-term satisfaction with the procedure. He did have to start wearing reading glasses shortly thereafter (probably age-related).

5. Would you be able to survive without glasses or contacts?

Survive? Yes. I'd probably get massive headaches from having to squint all the time, though.

6. If you would get laser surgery, what would your reasons be?

So I could wear real sunglasses. My eyes are very light-sensitive (a by-product of my bad eye's problems) and the tinted lenses of my prescription glasses don't help as much as I'd like.

One of my main reasons for getting surgery is that my eye sight is rather poor. If I ever get into an emergency situation without my glasses or contacts, I'm unlikely to be doing well.

Yeah, I'd have that problem, too. I lost the lens to my good eye one night (screw fell out and I couldn't find it) and had to either go blind or drive home with my sunglasses on. In the dark. On a street with no lighting. With one headlight out. And a new moon. Very dark.

P.S. The "NSSP" is implied.

Of course, [Quixote] carried it a bit too far. He thought that every windmill was a giant. That's insane. But, thinking that they might be...
