I'm struggeling with a picturecollection from WWII, privatearchive, with lots of handwriting on the back of the pictures in German. I don't understand German at all, so I'm kind of having problems with a few words to dechipher what the hell it says. Some of the writing has been written in pen (damn the idiots who uses pen on pictures!!!!) and so the ink has been wiped all over the place, leaving some of the words unreadable. I'm gonna post a few weird words/sentences here... Can someone please correct me or tell me what they say?

Picture of crashed plane: Krechgelandeter or Frugelandeter?

That is not German, probably dutch for crash landing.

People overlooking mountain view: An der Swedischen grenze nach dem giccekokkagletscher

On the Swedish border, after the giccekokka-glacier.

Massgrave: Wo? Das uss ein soldaten = Friedhof sein mit umge = betteten gefallensargen, Narvik, Trondheim? Man erkennt die fahne mit dem Deutchen eiseren kreuz. Geborgene von einem schiffstorpedo? Rognanbotn?

Where? That has to be a soldier cemetery erm...bedded...fallen coffins gibberish, Narvik Trondheim? You can make out the flag with the German Iron Cross. Secured people from a ship torpedo? Rognan makes no sense. boats?

More to come if I can get help.

gladly

Nah, it's nothing like Dutch. Looks like mangled German or Scandinavian to me. - 06/07/2011 08:08:13 PM 257 Views
