I even mentioned some in the post you replied to just now. Perhaps the spouse was the wage earner and passed away. Perhaps a condom broke. Perhaps they meant to have one and had triplets instead. Maybe their parents and schools never taught them about birth control and they just didn't know enough when they were starting out. Maybe she was raped at some point and had a child from it. Maybe she knew when she got pregnant that she couldn't afford it but couldn't bear to give her own children up for adoption and is trying her best to make things work even though the odds are stacked against her. Are any of those a good reason to turn your back and say the family deserves it? Do the kids deserve it too? And even one child can be very expensive if the mother/father can only make minimum wage.

And in some cases, yes, there's probably some short-sightedness going on. You can even call it outright stupidity in some cases. But broad brushes, man. Broad brushes for such varied situations.
