I've ever personally used it on an animal, as I've worked with mostly the larger animals, but my classmates have told me some stories that are damned near miracles.

You'll find this is a pretty common story, actually. A lot of drugs are used in veterinary medicine that aren't used for humans for these exact reasons. That and it's easier to get drugs approved for pets.


DO NOTE that I said "pets". It is obscenely difficult to get drugs approved for food animals. Any drug approved for food animal use has to go through all the usual veterinary studies, THEN studies on the effects in humans (if not known), THEN studies on how long the drug resides in the tissues of the animal. It actually creates a bit of a struggle for treating them.
