It is small study and there needs to be larger more in depth studies done but I didn't see how it was sloppy. I think the biggest criticism is they didn't test the kids before hand to get a base line but when you are dealing with four year olds you have a very small window of time before you lose them.
All the kids were white upper/middle class. This is the group of kids who are most likely never to have been exposed to a show like SpongeBob, and to have been exposed to things like Baby Einstein or whatever. If loads of them haven't seen something like SpongeBob, of course they're going to be totally overstimulated and excited by it.
