It's not that they're real and you're not. It's that they're real *too*.

It can also be seen in the way clothes for plus-sized women are advertised: clothes for real women.
I really object to that. I am a real woman even though I don't wear plus sizes. It's going far too far the other way.
The drive should really be encouraging women (and men) to keep themselves to a healthy size - whatever that is for them.

I know that the whole "real" thing rubs a lot of people the wrong way. It's more like they're "real too" and not hideous freaks that should never be seen. Do you not see enough thin women on tv, or in movies, or in magazines, or on billboards, etc? The point of that quote isn't that thin women aren't real, it's that they're not the only ones.
It's also possible it's a response to models that are so thin that they actually die from it. I'm not plus size either but I do find them more relatable, and hey- more "real" than size 00. Not that this is a rational response! Theoretically, anyone can starve themselves, but not many women will have the right proportions for plus size modeling even if they do gain enough weight. If I were to gain weight, I'd probably be pear shaped. So really it's very amusing when people praise someone like Christina Hendricks as a more realistic body ideal because her body is actually a whole lot less attainable without surgery than the body of your run of the mill runway model. But I digress.
Anyway that's just an advertising campaign and I agree that it's not fantastic.

Would not having a well fitting bikini top make her magically lose weight?

I protest the "I'm okay, you're okay" drivel inherent in the statement "plus-size".

They have to over emphasize that it's ok precisely because society keeps saying that it's not

What makes you think that fat shaming is effective in making fat people lose weight?
