Ah, I didn't think about the time factor; good point. Joel Send a noteboard - 15/09/2011 12:39:54 PM
Things packed in dry ice won't last more than a couple days, tops. And to get something overseas in a couple days requires the fastest service available. I haven't checked delivery times for the USPS lately, but Priority mail takes a lot longer than two days, and so is not an option for dry-ice shipping.

Dry ice itself is pretty cheap, believe it or not. Most grocery stores will sell you limited quantities (5-10lbs).

EDIT: Priority says 6-10 business days. Two weeks. The only service they have that would be fast enough says 1-3 business days, and is well over $200.

Or rather, I thought about in terms of how long it takes me to fly from here to there, not how long my package would sit on a loading dock before being put on a plane, how long it would be in customs here or when they'd send us a note to come get it. Shipping it fast enough that those factors don't become fatal to the whole proceeding would, as you say, most likely increase the cost to the point where any savings would be negligible to non-existent.
