"If there's a class war in this country, my class is winning."--Warren Buffet

Or elected GWB twice, or have an R Congress for 12 years, or have a majority of R Governors and state legislatures, etc.
Everyone "supports" raising taxes on other people, but it hasn't shown to be a vote motivator in the recent past.

Some people support raising their own taxes and lowering others. I'm actually NOT thinking of Buffet here, but your recent agreement with Congressional Republicans specious suggestion to hike taxes on deadbeats on food stamps who've lost their homes after months (or years) of looking for work turned up nothing. With 84% saying they oppose ANY Social Security or Medicare cuts and 3 out of 4 people saying they want higher taxes for people earning >$250,000 Obama indulging this kind of rhetoric (which is all it is) is a no brainer. People who've lost their jobs and homes are losing patience with the sense of entitlement rampant among the wealthy elite who fired them and/or eagerly offered them mortgages knowing they'd never be repaid just so they could make money off the default. Stuff like that is why we used to have laws against lenders being investors and investors being lenders; yea for economy boosting deregulation, I guess.

Sure it does: Pledging to do what one wanted to do anyway is rhetoric, not principle.
