Why do fossil fuels have to be involved? LadyLorraine Send a noteboard - 29/09/2011 08:33:26 PM
It just seems like that's a pretty limited thought process. We don't know what's out there on other planets and what resources other planets may have to work with. They may have resources we can't even imagine. Any thought at all as to what conditions would exist on a very distant planet are hypotheses at best.

Hell, I would be open to the thought that physics itself is different elsewhere. Not in the way that it's fundamentally different, but we're looking at things from a rather limited scope here. We're only able to test within a limited set of systems and everything outside of that is conjecture (however founded in mathematics and known physical principles). I'm not saying it's LIKELY...but I wouldn't discard the idea all together either.

So I guess I just don't see why fossil fuels or any other fuel/energy source we have HERE would be necessary for somewhere else.

An interesting thought I had that may be worth discussion. - 29/09/2011 07:22:01 PM 931 Views
Well, Fermi Paradox discussions usually end with ???? - 29/09/2011 07:51:59 PM 615 Views
you do have to hope there's intelligent life somewhere out there - 29/09/2011 07:56:48 PM 663 Views
I definitely agree with the first part. - 29/09/2011 08:32:33 PM 752 Views
why do you think only those options would be available? - 29/09/2011 08:35:53 PM 603 Views
Could be cultural domination. - 29/09/2011 09:32:18 PM 619 Views

The big issue is energy density, IMHO. - 30/09/2011 02:53:39 AM 719 Views
