In the books. And they messed up too! In one plot they put under their protection an endangered species (on an alien world that I believe humans colonized) only it later turns out that whole species is evil. They were nazi squid, except they were really good at exterminating the impure, so good that there wasn't much evidence of it and the vegan all powerful aliens were fooled.
