I'm curious how you distinguish "full socialism" from "full communism." Joel Send a noteboard - 10/10/2011 05:32:53 AM
Particularly since socialism is by nature a hybrid between completely state collective run (i.e. communist) and completely free market (i.e. capitalist) systems. "Full socialism" has a ring much like "radical moderate" to my ear. Sorry if I am getting semantic here, I am just so very tired of hearing people use "socialism" and "communism" interchangeably. Actually, I do not mind them doing it so much as them doing it in such great numbers and otherwise intelligent people listening to them.

Also, saying, "free markets, if operating properly" is one HELL of a qualifier, as I know you are aware. Free markets do not operate properly very long without some degree of government regulation (ideally, democratic or republican, since the alternative was best defined by Mussolini.) At that point we are back to a hybrid system (or fascism but, again, I assume we agree that is undesirable;) if you wish to debate where to strike that balance, I agree that is precisely the proper debate, because communist and laissez-faire economic systems have always and invariably ended horrifically.

Um, a LOT of places have mixed "free" market and state rule. - 10/10/2011 05:43:49 AM 693 Views
WTF? Canada, Western Europe, and Japan are democracies, not state-rule like China - *NM* - 10/10/2011 05:53:17 PM 261 Views

Let's see...you're asking if property theft by the state is compatible with freedom? No. - 10/10/2011 04:58:14 AM 528 Views
