I haven't crunched numbers but I was thinking about the same thing. Avendesora Send a noteboard - 10/11/2011 10:18:26 PM
I mean, I would imagine growing trees in a sustainable fashion isn't too bad at all compared to many of the alternative uses of the land. How does it match up to turning the land over to corn/ cows and manufacturing more fake trees? Or just tearing up the trees to build a fake Christmas tree factory on the land?

We have to think of water quality due to fertilizer runoff. And the amount of fuel it takes to haul the trees everywhere. This is done on a yearly basis. Now, I don't know how much fertilizer a tree requires, they may not need tons of nitrogen, phosphorus, or potassium.

Even if the fake tree was only used twice... You're still reducing shipping pollution by half. however, trees may reduce runoff due to root growth, add oxygen to the atmosphere, etc.

I would think it's akin to using a paper cup and throwing it out vs. Reusing a glass.

I prefer a real tree, but I feel better not killing a tree every year go display for 2 weeks.

Why are we supporting an industry that does nothing but chop down healthy trees to throw them away? - 10/11/2011 02:30:10 PM 603 Views
Well, for the most part that is the reason they were planted in the first place. - 10/11/2011 02:34:09 PM 504 Views

These are trees that are planted specifically for that purpose... and then replacements are planted. - 10/11/2011 02:42:04 PM 488 Views
