Re: I don't think the protest is about being people feeling entitled Roonas Send a noteboard - 24/11/2011 03:07:09 AM
It's not about people not willing to work to take care of themselves. It's about there being a small group of people who own pretty much everything.

A protest of that "fact" does nothing. A socialist revolution would rectify that situation, but a "sit in" protest making people aware of things that they are already inherently aware of is silly and redundant, not to mention ineffectual. I think they failed first to come up with a message and a reason for the protest, and now that they think they have one, are realizing it won't solve the problem just to whine about it. Votes and bullets change governments, not protests.

That's not "life's unfair, deal with it", that's "the system as it currently stands unfairly favors a group of people who do not need to be favored."

Unfairly why? I am not a corporate flunky or desire to be in charge of one, I have no particular hate or dislike, or the opposite for the corporate culture as it is today. I just think what they are doing does not change the first part of your statement, because I do believe it is: "Life's unfair, deal with it". Have's and Have-not's will continue to exist even if said Socialist Revolution were to come to fruition. What matters is your own personal planning and decisions and goals. What everyone else does merely sets the playing field.

Btw, I'm sure that your bootstraps attitude sounds really romantic, but the fact is, cleaning toilets for the rest of your life is really shitty (pun unintended).

Not romantic, just the reality I was raised in. I have cleaned toilets, I have painted houses on long summer days, I have done many many other jobs that sucked the life from my soul, but I did it to survive and worked hard to get where I am today.

Regardless of whether it's fun or your passion or what have you, the reason people work instead of pro-bono volunteerism is because we wouldn't choose to do that job for free. We work to live, some people have it rough and yet still succeed, these protesters live to avoid work, that's the fact as I see them displayed out on the streets. If they showed me something more, like the "cause oriented" protests of ending a war in the vietnam era or Civil rights, something with clarity and substance, then I might actually give them some credit ... but as of right now it is about entitlement, pure and simple.
