The wonderful Allie Brosh wrote a blog entry last year that I have just discovered (from a different blog) comparing cake to pie. Pie wins.

Everyone loves pie. Not everyone loves cake.

In point #5 she argues that pie has more usability over the year. And then has cake at Christmas being the lowest point for cakeyness. But this makes no sense! Christmas has a cake all of its very own! You make it months in advance and fill it with booze! How is this not wonderful?

I've never heard of "The Christmas Cake." The fact that it has booze does sound wonderful, depending on the rest of the ingredients. If there's sugar-based frosting or it's chocolate cake, then it doesn't sound so wonderful to me.

Do Americans not do this?

No. We have fruitcake. I've never actually had fruitcake, but it looks horrible. Also, a running joke is that fruitcake is a bad gift to give/food to bring to the holiday meal, and people make polite noises to the person who gave/brought it, but do their best not to eat it and throw it away as soon as possible.

And what kind of pie would you have at Christmas? }<img class=' />

Almost any kind, but (along with Thanksgiving) the seasonal/traditional pie is pumpkin pie. I LOVE pumpkin pie, especially with whipped cream.

Help me, RAFO. You're my only hope. Sad as that is. Well. Also untrue. I could ask Twitter but I think the Americans are sleeping and then the tweet will be lost in the mists of time before they get up whereas this post will sit here waiting for you.

Also, I don't use Twitter.
