It's possible that some store-bought birthday cakes do that too but I am not certain.
I've seen it frequently in the store, and I have seen it at a baptism party. I must have just not had a scratch cake yet.
I am confused. Do Americans not do cake at Christmas?

We have different icing. It is not typically a very dense, flat sheet of solid icing. Like fondant.
