I saw "hotting up" in The Economist. It makes me want to punch someone in the neck. And you were definitely not "stood" anywhere, unless someone put you there. Bleck.
What the hell? I will assume hotting up is heating something up? Like to make someone riled? Or making themselves desirable?
I've only ever heard stood used as in stood up. My date stood me up.(didn't show up for those who don't know it).
